Rehoboth Rescue Mission – North Kivu Affiliate
Democratic Republic of Congo
For over 30yrs communities in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), particularly in North and South Kivu, have experienced prolonged armed conflict, displacement, poverty, and ongoing humanitarian challenges.
Many families have been forced to leave their homes repeatedly in search of safety. Some have lost loved ones, homes, livelihoods, and other sources of support due to the insecurity. Communities are disrupted, schools have been damaged or closed, and many children have lost access to education and other essential services.
The humanitarian situation in North Kivu remains fluid and difficult to predict. Continued insecurity and displacement may further disrupt education, separate families, damage infrastructure, and place additional pressure on already limited community resources. In this challenging environment, families and communities continue to need support as they work to rebuild their lives and create a more stable future.
Response Priorities
1. Education & Child Well-Being
Our first priority is to restore and expand access to education for children affected by conflict and displacement. We support temporary learning spaces, school supplies, educational materials, teacher support, and flexible learning opportunities. Alongside education, we promote safe, child-friendly environments where vulnerable children can receive appropriate psychosocial and community support, regain a sense of stability, and continue to learn and grow despite the challenges they face.
2. Peacebuilding, Youth & Women’s Empowerment
Our second priority is to strengthen the role of young people and women in building peaceful, resilient, and thriving communities. We provide opportunities for young people to develop communication, conflict-resolution, dialogue, and leadership skills. At the same time, we support women through initiatives that strengthen their capacity, participation, leadership, livelihoods, and ability to contribute to the well-being and development of their families and communities because we believe women and young people are important partners in creating lasting positive change.
3. Community Resilience & Recovery
Our third priority is to strengthen the capacity of families and communities to respond to ongoing challenges and recover from crisis. We work alongside local leaders, families, teachers, women, youth, and community organizations to identify needs, mobilize local resources, and develop practical, community-led solutions.
